Accessibility Statement
How we work to make The Safe Click Project usable by everyone.
Effective date: May 20, 2026
The Safe Click Project exists to teach people how to use the internet safely. That mission only works if the people we're trying to help can actually use the site. We take accessibility seriously, and we are committed to working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the Level AA standard.
What we've done
- Designed the site with strong text-to-background color contrast in the navy and teal palette
- Used semantic HTML so that screen readers can navigate the site with headings, landmarks, and ARIA labels
- Written every page in plain language — accessibility includes cognitive accessibility
- Made the site fully responsive so it works on small screens, large screens, and at zoom levels up to 200%
- Provided alt text on every meaningful image
- Plan to provide written transcripts alongside every lesson video, so the content is fully accessible without audio
- Plan to provide closed captions on every lesson video
- Plan to provide downloadable PDF resources that are tagged for screen readers
What we know isn't perfect yet
Honesty matters here. As of launch, we know the following may still need work:
- Video captions are author-written, not auto-generated — they may lag the publication of new lessons by a few days
- PDF tagging on downloadable resources is a work in progress
- We have not yet tested the site against every major screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack) — we are working through the list
- Some embedded third-party content (for example, the email signup widget) may not be fully accessible; we are evaluating alternatives
If something else needs work, we want to hear about it.
Standards we aim for
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We do not currently claim conformance — we claim commitment. As we add lessons and pages, we test against WCAG criteria and fix what we find.
Tell us when something doesn't work
If anything on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us. We will work to fix it as quickly as we can. Email hello@thesafeclickproject.com with as much detail as you can share:
- Which page or lesson you were on (a URL is great if you have it)
- What you were trying to do
- What happened, and what you expected to happen
- What device, browser, or assistive technology you were using, if you're comfortable sharing
A real person reads every email, and we will reply with what we plan to do about it.
